HISTORY OF PERIODIC TABLE
Most of us are familiar with the work done by Mendeleev and Moseley in the development of the periodic table. But there are some other genius minds who contributed towards a logical arrangement of elements.

How to Calculate Oxidation state
Oxidation and reduction are two
processes encountered during chemical reactions. Generally, oxidation involves
the loss of electrons, while reduction means the gain of electrons. During this
loss and gain of electrons the electronic distribution on atoms in a molecule
changes. Oxidation state or oxidation number therefore is the degree of loss of
electrons by an atom.

HOW TO CALCULATE THE YIELD OF A REACTION
HOW
TO CALCULATE THE YIELD OF A REACTION
In chemistry, especially in organic
chemistry, it is very important to calculate the yield of any reaction. It is
reported in percentage. The percent yield of a reaction is an indication of the
feasibility of reaction, reactivity and compatibility of the reactants,
solvents, and reagents used in the reaction, and validity of the methodology employed
in the reaction. This is the reason why scientists talk big about the high
yields of products in their synthetic accomplishments. Percent yield is
calculated from the following simple equation:

Alkene Metathesis
Alkene metathesis or olefin metathesis is a C=C
forming reaction in which the components of two alkenes are redistributed to
form a new C=C bond. This fascinating reaction led to the award of Nobel Prize to
Chauvin, Grubbs, and Schrock collectively in 2005. They have worked enormously
on the reaction mechanism and kinetics of alkene metathesis.

1. Wittig Reaction
This Nobel Prize winning reaction was discovered by
George Wittig. It involves the reaction of an aldehyde or ketone with
phosphorus ylides, leading to the formation of a double bond between carbon
atoms.

8. Reformatsky Reaction
This reactions is the condensation of a-halo esters with aldehydes or ketones in the presence of zinc to yield b-hydroxy esters.
